As we saw briefly in class, Facebook announced their new Graph Search. Here is an article (of the many that have been covered in pretty much all online and print news links) that shows you how it works, what it offers, etc. What do you think? Another gimmick or a real challenge to Google?

I think it's too early to tell whether or not this will really take off. If it is an opportunity to challenge Google, Facebook will need a way to broaden the scope beyond just Facebook users. This also adds another privacy configuration users will need to pay attention to, and that may turn people off from the feature.
I think it's supposed to be up and running this week. I suspect those that use Facebook for everything will like this. Then, there are those like me who only use it to see what my friends are doing. :)
i think Facebook Graph is really cool in a sense we will see what our friends like to go or check in to near by. There's also Google's Knowledge Graph which will try to answer people's questions via the search engine. They are pulling data from partners to make their query work. Both are revolutionary and keep each other on their toes, which is what needed for innovation to happen.
As a a side note, here's a link to Google's Knowledge Graph- http://venturebeat.com/2013/01/22/larry-page-on-googles-knowledge-graph-were-still-at-1-of-where-we-want-to-be/
I think it will be interesting when individuals who use Facebook end up realizing how much information about them is public on their accounts. This is especially the case regarding settings being implemented that need to be optimized to ensure some sort of privacy. The run of the mill Facebook user will most likely NOT realize the privacy concerns of Facebook's graphic search system. Facebook stalking has been around for awhile, but this new Facebook function makes it even easier. I suppose it's the nature of the beast regarding social media!
